The Cheshire Tap: Altrincham’s Coolest New Bar – review

The Cheshire Tap

pened just before Christmas you would expect a new bar would be dead during a wet and windy January with some spent up, feeling the pinch and others embarking on a Dry January’. The Government is desperately trying to spoil everyone’s fun by introducing an almost zero consumption guide for alcohol intake just to make the scenario even more gloomy!

Well there was little evidence of that last night in Altrincham’s newest bar – The Cheshire Tap – H&A ventured inside for a few drinks.

The first thing you notice is the strict looking bouncer on the door – ‘to keep out the kids’ according to the guy on the bar and an essential part of the mix when you a situated on Railway Street on the corner of King’s Court, opposite the hospital which unfortunately is rather notorious for late night revelling and riotous behaviour.

The Cheshire Tap – Interior

The interior has a laid back almost New York feel with a very cool long zinc bar, just the right height to sit back and relax in front of. Industrial lighting hangs down the centre, bought from a reclamation yard in Belgium according to our host and small low wattage bulbs hang over the bar itself giving just the right amount of light to be intimate without being intimidating. The dark wooden floor and tables dotted around allow for standing or sitting around the edges giving a really relaxed feel to the place.

With hand pumped beers alongside wines and spirits aplenty the bar offers a really cool and inviting socialising space completely insulated from the bright lights of Altrincham outside.

H&A wish the owners all the very best in what appears to be a very successful opening – we will definitely be back!
