CHILDREN from Sale and Altrincham Little Belters are joining forces for the fifth consecutive year, to sing to runners in the Greater Manchester Marathon on Sunday, April 2nd.
The choir, for children aged 5-11 years, was most recently seen singing on Dragons’ Den, but will now will take prime position in front of Altrincham Leisure Centre on Oakfield Road between 10am and 12pm and then near the finishing line in Streford, at the corner of Chester Road and Talbot Road from 12pm to 2pm.
The videos of their performances, helping to motivate runners in previous Manchester Marathons, have become YouTube hits, with the runners awarding them the Best Entertainment award in 2016.
“We’re currently in training ourselves, practising our motivational songs and making sure our vocal chords are in tip top shape! The runners get an amazing boost from seeing the children perform and we won’t be letting them down this year”
said Claire O’Brien, a classically trained singer who runs Little Belters with her opera-singing sister, Tina.
Songs chosen this year include Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake, Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac and World in Motion by New Order.
Tina added:
“We’re excited to be on the race route with Manchester Children’s Hospital who we support and are the official local charity for the Manchester Marathon. Together we’ll make a real impact and help spur on the runners to work through the pain; with a little help from the likes of ‘Freedom’ by George Michael. We even have one of our choir leaders, Lisa Collier running this year!”
Little Belters run classes in Altrincham, Sale, Didsbury, Chorlton and Cheadle Hulme. With more children loving the fun, high-energy choir experience, additional classes have just been added in Sale (Monday 4.15-5.15pm) in Altrincham (Wednesday 4.30-5.30pm) and in Chorlton (Thursdays 4.45-5.45pm.)
