Hale & Altrincham Life’s co-owner and Louder Than War Editor Nigel Carr joins Radio Alty this week. He will present a two hour set on Wednesday evenings packed with new music, local bands & artists and classics. Under the banner of ‘Reaching into the past to make sense of the present’. Nigel told us:
“Very little music is completely new so when I hear an instrument or a line from a song, I immediately start to make connections. There is a new Cabbage track called ‘You make an art form (from falling to pieces)‘ which is named after a line from a Coronation Street episode from 1988 where Dierdre remarks to Ken Barlow ‘I wonder what kind of dither we’ll find you in today. You make an art form from falling to pieces’. So I’ll play that followed by a Monkees song. Why? because Davy Jones was Ena Sharples’ grandson! So I will be dropping little nuggets in there, explaining some, then leaving you to work out the rest!”.
“The show will be an eclectic mix of new releases from predominantly Manchester and more local artists & bands, and classics; from sixties psyche, through punk, dance and alternative – whatever fits!”
For example, I interviewed Jason Williamson for the site last week. He’s one half of Sleaford Mods, so I may feature interview snippets and maybe the odd track from their new compilation All That Glue if I can find one without swearing in it!”.
Nigel is Interviews & Features editor at Louder Than War – the online music magazine which was started by John Robb and has a host of talented writers covering new releases, live gigs and events; even books and film releases.
It also has a team of professional photographers headed up by Melanie Smith from Mudkiss Photography. He has a deep love and an incredible knowledge of popular music which he will be delving into to add facts and trivia during the show.
You can listen to Nigel’s show on Radio Alty – Wednesday evenings at 9 pm and it runs until 11 pm.
