Born out of lockdown, Friends of Wine are a family-owned wine company based in Hale, delivering award-winning wines direct to the front door of customers in South Manchester and North Cheshire.
After seeing neighbours on the local Whatsapp group bemoan the supermarket’s lockdown restrictions on more than two bottles of wine, brothers James and Dominic Hovington – both second generation wine importers with over 20 years experience running the family wine importation company, decided to offer their assistance. The family started offering a small range of wines by the 6 bottle case to neighbours and friends in need. Providing a weekly free delivery, and of course from 2 metres away, they liked to call it “Service with a smile… just behind a mask”.
After being well received in the local area with orders by text and seeing local demand increase for their range of bottles on offer, www.friendsofwine.co.uk was born for quick and easy ordering. And of course to be able to introduce more delicious wines!
“We found we were having more requests for a mixture of wines, so we started to expand the range whilst also maintaining the essence of our humble beginnings. We want to continue that community feel, so we still handle all the deliveries ourselves, and we source the wines so there’s no middlemen. You’re not locked into buying three cases of wine a month either, you choose when to buy and what to buy. No tie-ins, no hidden costs, just friends enjoying wine together!”
Friends of Wine’s new and improved range varies from excellent entry level wines like their Chilean Merlot and Italian Pinot Grigio, which really provide an incredible quality for their price, as well as Argentinian Malbec and Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. For more expensive French and Italian wines, you can find a variety of choices including Barolo and Puligny Montrachet.
“We want to try and offer something for everyone, we have worked hard to build this range which we believe offers excellent quality at every price point – wines for every taste and every affordability.”
Choosing wine can often be a daunting task, so Friends of Wine have built a concise range focusing only on the best and most popular wines to take the stress out of choosing. They have also gone back to basics with the tasting notes on the website, making it easy to navigate through the wines and find the flavours and characteristics you love, as well as discovering new ones to try.
So with Christmas round the corner and lockdown still in place, let Friends of Wine take some of the stress out of planning, with wine delivered to your doorstep. There are currently 26 to choose from (and growing) so you have plenty of choice for your festive tipples! All orders also currently come with a free branded Ice Bucket or Waiter’s Friend bottle opener – while stocks last!
Why not treat yourself with something special this winter with their Charles Chevalier Champagne (£18.99 per bottle) or their award-winning Costaross Prosecco (£6.99 per bottle)? Both are perfect for enjoying with friends and family.
